An amazing destination for mountain biking in Portugal.
Sintra Mountain range is a favourite for portuguese mountain bikers. With surprising single tracks and trails, it's a great option for a half-day or full day bike tour around Lisbon. One of the best ways to get to know this area is to start your ride from the historical center, so you also have the opportunity to ride by the UNESCO world heritage sites. You can also stop and taste the local pastry and eat one ( or two, or even three!) "travesseiros", to prepare yourself for the ride.
You can start your climb in direction to Monserrate, visiting Quinta da Regaleira and Palácio de Seteais on your way to the forest. Turning left just after Palácio de Seteais, you'll encounter a paved and car free road that'll lead you right to the middle of the mountain range, to the "Quatro caminhos", where you'll be able to access different kinds of trails. From "Quatro caminhos", you can climb up to "Peninha and enjoy the amazing view over the Atlantic coast side of the mountain range, or descend to "Pé da Serra", and have lunch at the typical restaurant "Refúgio do Ciclista" ( "Cyclists's lounge", loosely translated) and head back to Sintra's historical city center.
