Some of Portugal’s most rewarding cycling begins where the paved road ends.
A gravel bike gives you the freedom to combine quiet country roads with forest tracks, coastal trails and unpaved paths, opening up landscapes and routes that you simply wouldn’t experience on a traditional road bike.
Portugal is particularly well suited to gravel riding. Its extensive network of secondary roads, agricultural tracks and rural trails means a single ride can take you from smooth tarmac through vineyards and cork forests before joining a gravel track towards the coast or a historic village.

The great advantage of a gravel bike is versatility.
It offers much of the efficiency and responsive feel of a road bike, but with wider tyres, greater stability and the ability to comfortably explore unpaved surfaces.
That makes gravel a great choice if you enjoy cycling but don’t want to be restricted to asphalt. It allows our route designers to choose roads and trails because they lead somewhere beautiful, rather than because they happen to suit one particular type of bike.
For many riders, gravel also provides the perfect middle ground between road cycling and mountain biking. You can explore trails and unpaved roads without needing the more technical riding style associated with a mountain bike.
Portugal’s varied landscapes make gravel riding possible in very different environments.
Algarve and southwest Portugal
The south of Portugal offers a wonderful mixture of quiet roads, gravel tracks, natural parks and trails close to the Atlantic, that we explore on our gravel bike tour from the Guadiana natural park to the Algarve coast. Gravel bikes allow us to move easily between the countryside and coast while avoiding busier roads whenever possible.
Sintra and the Lisbon coast
Around Sintra and Cascais, forest tracks, coastal trails and quiet roads create an exceptionally varied riding environment. In a single day you can move between mountains, Atlantic viewpoints, small villages and the coastline.
Portuguese Camino
Gravel bikes are particularly well suited to the Portuguese Camino, where the journey naturally combines paved roads, cobbled sections, rural tracks and trails on the way towards Santiago de Compostela.
Rather than adapting the journey around the limitations of a road bike, a gravel bike lets you experience more of the character of the route itself.
At Live Love Ride, we believe the bike should enhance the journey rather than limit where you can go.
That’s why our fleet includes premium Specialized gravel bikes, professionally maintained and prepared by our team for your tour. Their combination of efficiency, comfort, wider tyres and confident handling makes them ideally suited to Portugal’s mixture of paved roads and unpaved terrain.
Before your journey begins, our team provides a professional bike fitting to make sure you’re comfortable and properly set up for several consecutive days of riding.
For riders who want the versatility of gravel with some additional assistance, we also have Specialized electric gravel bikes, allowing you to enjoy the same mixed-terrain experience with electric support when you want it.

Choose a gravel bike if you enjoy the efficiency and riding position of a road-style bike but want the freedom to explore beyond paved roads.
If you prefer a more upright riding position, more technical trails, pure road cycling or electric assistance, another bike from our fleet may suit you better.
